Housing for senior citizens

The World Zoroastrian Organisation Trust Funds (WZOTF) provides at Navsari various homes away from home for the aged and vulnerable, bringing a ray of hope to those facing difficulties in the twilight years of their lives. For senior citizens, to remain in the city where they have always lived would be more comforting as they will be closer to their family and friends. The community’s heritage property, the Parsi Lying-In Hospital (PLIH), has been in shambles for over three-and-a-half decades. It was to be converted into a state of the art orthopedic hospital. Besides earning an annual income, 10% occupancy was to be reserved for patients from the community.  Today, with little hope of a similar deal, there is an opportunity to revive and rejuvenate the structure and locate a useful senior citizens’ home there. It is important for this property to be brought back to life to benefit the community. The trustees of the Bombay Parsi Punchayet should give serious thought to the matter. Rising above petty politics, they should forget their differences and work wholeheartedly for the welfare of the community. Being in a position of power, they could make appeals to donors for this worthy cause.    PIROJA HOMI JOKHI piroja.jokhi@yahoo.com  ...
