Judgeship for Dubash

Counsel Farhan Dubash, honorary secretary of the Bombay Bar Association, was sworn in as a judge of the Bombay High Court on September 2, 2025 by acting Chief Justice Shree Chandrashekhar who himself took his oath as the new Chief Justice two days later. Dubash is one of 14 advocates elevated to the bench after the Supreme Court collegium recommended their appointment on August 19. With these new additions, the strength of Bombay High Court judges now stands at 82, 12 less than the sanctioned strength of 94.

After graduating from Government Law College, Dubash interned at Mulla and Mulla and Craigie Blunt and Caroe under Yazdi Dandiwala and later joined the chambers of Fredun DeVitre. While he was honorary secretary of the Bombay Bar Association he organized many seminars and lectures for young lawyers. Having built up a large practice in civil law — arbitration, corporate and construction matters — he has often acted as arbitrator in many disputes.
The 48-year-old Dadar Parsi Colony resident, son of Anaheeta and Parvez Dubash, is married to Natasha and is the father of Myra (19) and Leah (13). An avid trekker, he climbed Mt Kilimanjaro in Africa last year. He plays football and badminton and is a committee member of the Bombay Gymkhana.
With Dubash’s appointment there are now four judges in the Bombay High Court with Parsi parentage. He joins Justices Burgess Colabawalla, Firdosh Pooniwalla, and Riyaz Chagla, whose mother is a Parsi.
