Nagpur’s Navroz

Light showers did not dampen anyone’s spirit at the Khordad Saal evening function in Nagpur. The evening started with traditional lighting of the divo by Nagpur Parsi Gymkhana (NPG) president Shiraz Doongaji followed by a humbandagi. "Our ever enthusiastic Pesho Mehta sang a monajat while an orchestra played light, peppy, old Hindi songs,” noted Khurshid Dalal, editor of bawabuzz, the NPG’s newsmagazine. Traditional mouth-watering Parsi fare catered by Mehernosh and Behram Patel under the guidance of Annahita Doongaji rounded off the second celebrations in less than a week.        Prayers on Navroz in Nagpur       Close to 350 community members, including outstation guests, assembled for lunch on Navroz day, August 17, 2018 at Nagpur’s Parsi Dharamshala Hall, noted Dalal’s email. The city has around 450 resident Parsis. The meal was catered by Nerges and Firoze Karbhari, who "did an outstanding job of serving up a delicious fare.” An 11-mobed hama anjuman jashan at the Hirabai Mulla Dar-e-Meher led by panthaky Ervad Percy Panthaki preceded the meal. "Somewhat less than 350 were present for the prayers,” noted Dalal. President of the Nagpur Parsi Panchayet Aspi Bapuna, vice president Navroze Daver, honorary secretary Shiraz Gimi and other members of the managing committee were present.  ...
