“Business during a crisis”

With the imposition of US President Donald Trump’s erratic tariffs and "with protectionism growing, we have to rely on ourselves for our needs,” Nadir Godrej, chairperson, Godrej Industries told the Business Standard of August 8, 2025. He is one of four top industrialists questioned on the implications of the haphazard customs duty levied by the unpredictable US President. Though stating it is not sufficient to be self-reliant in a global world, the new realities require countries to look inward. "We were importing chemicals from China for our business. However, when much of China was under lockdown during Covid-19, we began manufacturing these raw materials locally to cater to our manufacturing needs. While we went back to importing our raw materials from China once the lockdown was lifted, it gave us a broad template of how to do business during a crisis,” he added.   Nadir Godrej: stressing on self-reliance Earlier this year Godrej Industries announced they were investing Rs 750 crores (over 90 million USD) to expand their chemical business, noted the reports.
