What saamel means

In the context of "Bright and gifted child” (Events and Personalities, Parsiana, April 21, 2012) about 12-year-old Ervad Dinshaw Magol who is qualified to perform rituals at Udvada’s Iranshah Atash Behram, Parsiana had asked Ervad (Dr) Ramiyar Karanjia, principal of the Dadar Athornan Institute to explain what the qualification "shaamel” means. Here is Karanjia’s response: "Saamel (not shaamel) is a Gujarati term which means ‘acceptance (in the elite group of priests).’ It is a type of priestly exam (not an initiation) exclusive to priests of Udvada who have undergone navar and maratab and want to do the boi ritual at the Iranshah Atash Behram.  Ervad Dinshaw Magol: bright and gifted "In saamel, the candidate has to invite one or both the Vada Dasturs and some senior priests to test his capability. On an appointed day, they gather in the Iranshah to take a viva exam in which the candidate is made to recite pra­yers by heart and questions as well are asked about intricacies of prayers and rituals. If the examiners are satisfied with the candidate’s knowledge and prowess of prayers, he is given permission to perform the boi ritual at Iranshah.”...
