Modernization at Masina
In its ongoing progress towards modernization, Masina Hospital is investing in two super speciality Laminar Air flow (pictured) suitable for orthopedic joint replacement and cardiac surgery. Very few trust hospitals can provide the same.
Surgical site infections account for 15% of hospital acquired infections. While infections occur due to patient and procedure related factors, a lot of them occur due to the lack of a perfect operation theater environment. The Laminar equipment works by use of the principles of positive pressure, exchange of filtered air per hour, air-conditioning systems with HEPA filters, etc. These result in an exponential drop in infection rates, bringing them down to less than 0.02%. Therefore surgeries which involve implants like metal and polythene joints and artificial heart valves, etc are best done in such operation theaters.
The cost of a modern operation theater including Laminar Air flow with LED lights is approximately Rs 30 lakhs. We would appreciate donations for the equipment.
