Standing twice on the podium for Formula 2 races on two successive days at Italy’s Monza race track on the second weekend of September 2022, India’s Jehan Daruvala declared, "Monza is up here with one of my all-time favorite tracks and standing on the top step of this incredible podium… with the Indian national anthem playing out feels so so special… It’s been a long time coming.” His overall ranking now stands at number five among the top 27 FIA (Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile) Formula 2 racers. FIA brings together 244 motoring and sporting organizations from 146 countries.
Jehan Daruvala: triumphant in Monza
The Formula 2 championship acts as a support series for Formula 1. According to Wikipedia, Formula 1 is "the highest class of international racing for open wheel, single-seater Formula racing cars… Formula refers to the set of rules to which all participants’ cars must conform.”
Backed by Red Bull, 23-year-old Daruvala won the main feature race on September 11 and the previous day came third in the sprint race. This was his eighth win in the 2022 season. Starting the feature race in the sixth position, he "used a mix of strategy, race craft and tyre management to capitalize on a safety car and red flag interrupted race to clinch a comfortable win around the hallowed ‘Temple of speed,” noted a press release. Cheering Jehan to victory were his parents Kainaz and Khurshed, sister Delna, his maternal grandmother Pervin Madan and paternal grandmother Zarine Daruvala.
With the season finale scheduled in Abu Dhabi on the third weekend of November this year, Jehan stated, "The Yas Marina track is another venue I like and I won there last year. So going there on the back of a weekend like this one gives us a major boost.”
