Ode to our forefathers

The pages of yesterday/ Cannot be revised/But the pages of/ Tomorrow are blank/ And you hold the pen/ Make it happen/ If you can. Zoroastrians (forefathers)/ Of old were as good as gold/ They believed in/ Serving humanity/ Practicing their/ Manashni, gavashni, kunashni/ But, today alas!/ With due respect/ There is/ Discrimination segregation/ Racism and bigotry. Our forefathers/ Took pride/ In whatever they did/ By serving the community/ As well humanity/ Looked after every one’s needs/ Regardless of color, caste or creed. If one is a staunch Zoroastrian/ Why don’t you all protest/ About the selling of Air India (our national treasure)/ Which was started by our/ Pride and joy/ Zoroastrian J. R. D. Tata! I truly understand/ The recent protest/ Regarding the Metro/ If Zoroastrians do/ Ultimately disappear/ Who will take responsibility/ Feeding the holy fire! Calm down and cool/ Get one’s priorities straight/ If there’s no unity/ There will be/ No Zoroastrians/ I am afraid. FARIDA BAMJI Canada faridabam@gmail.com  ...
