Pay or else...

"We are working with the Bombay Municipal Corporation (BMC) and have given them some postdated checks” for the outstanding dues of Rs 1.80 crores claimed by them, Bombay Parsi Punchayet (BPP) trustee Kersi Randeria told Parsiana on March 25, 2019. He was referring to a BMC demand for past dues of property tax for an incomplete 16-storey building in Godrej Baug (pictured). Randeria could not confirm if the checks covered all the demanded past property tax dues. The Hindustan Times of March 19 carried a report that the BMC had stated that they could auction the property, or add a two percent penalty per month if the dues were not paid. The building has remained incomplete since construction was halted six years ago. Randeria informed Parsiana that there were "many reasons” for the stoppage of work, including permissions from regulatory authorities. Former BPP chairman Dinshaw Mehta told Parsiana on March 29 that he believes that the Punchayet has "a good chance” of getting the balance amount reduced, if appealed in the High Court.  ...
