OBE for Nina Wadia

Known for her lead roles in the TV series EastEnders and Goodness Gracious Me, 52-year-old popular UK-based actress Nina Wadia was named among the awardees to be conferred the Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) distinction in 2021. The list that was announced on December 30, 2020 commended her "services to entertainment and charity.”
The thespian who originally thought the news was a prank call was quoted in the Evening Express of December 30, 2020 as stating, "I’m very excited of course, I feel it’s a huge, huge honor that this has come my way… It’s made the last 30 years of my career, all the hard times, feel worthwhile.” The actor was hopeful that every charity that she represents will "now have a bit of a boost, especially after the year that we’ve had where raising funds has been particularly difficult.”
Having won several TV awards in the past including best comedic performance at the 2009 British Soap Awards, Wadia has featured on BBC One sitcom Citizen Khan as well as Still Open All Hours and Death In Paradise. Recently she had also appeared in Disney’s 2019 blockbuster Aladdin.
Having spent her formative years in Bombay she is married to Raiomond Mirza, a composer and producer.
